This is the time of year when I start to think seriously about my scrapbooking projects for the next year. While I have a few that need to be finished (including scrapbooking P365 for 2010 and Father’s Day 2011) … I am thinking about 2012.

For next year I am thinking about 2 projects … Project 365 with Instagram and Project Life

P365 with Instagram

I am a big fan of Project 365. I completed … well at least taking all of the photos for Project 365 in 2010 (I have a previous post more on what is Project 365 here or all of my posts here). It was alot of fun and I only missed 6 days from the whole year. I love it because it is a awesome way to look at the year in a single snapshot … to see how the kids changed over the year and what we got up to. I wanted to do it again this year … but it takes alot of thought and discipline .. especially to remember to have the camera with you all the time.

But I have been thinking is that I always have my phone with me … and I am addicted to taking pictures with Instagram. So maybe for 2012 I should do a P365 with Instagram. This time I won’t put any rules on myself (in 2010 I had the rule that I wanted 1 photo of each of the kids each day) … except ‘trying’ to take 1 photo a day with Instagram (or at least editing it with Instagram). (for more on How I plan on doing Project 365 with Instagram)

Project Life

This IS going to be my big project for 2012. What I have asked for Christmas is a ‘starter’s pack’ of things from Project Life. I can’t wait. I think this is going to be the perfect thing for me. I will be able to bring together my digital scrapbooking and traditional scrapbooking without it having to be as complicated (or as expensive) as hybrid.

I am really looking foward to it. I think part of my problem is that while I love digital scrapbooking I like to put together an album. But doing an album as a single project is alot of work … and therefore can sometimes be just too big a project. I need to have lots of little things I can do and feel that I have accomplished something. I think this is where Project Life will be good. I am not going to think about it as a album but just a collection of pages .. I am really looking forward to it …

Do you have a memory keeping project planned for 2012? Have you done P365 … what are you thoughts? Have you done Project Life?

Hi Bron, you know I take very few photos of my family, of any ‘just because’ photos for that matter.  I find it so hard and stressful holding an expensive camera, lens and screaming toddlers LOL.  I’m going to start bringing out a point and shoot a lot more in 2012 and take pressure off myself to get the money shot every time.  I’m also getting an iPhone {I know… where have I been?} when my current contract runs out in Feb and can imagine I’m gonna go CRAZY with instagram… I’m so excited.
Once baby is settled in I might join you in a P365 around Feb/Mar… fashionably late again ;)

Hi … I think when I upgrade Disqus it lost my reply … oh well.

It doesn’t surprise me that you take only a few photos. Reminds me about the old story about the cobbler and his children’s shoes. I can totally understand though how it can be different for you. It must be hard the pressure you put on yourself to get great shots all the time. I guess that is one of the things I liked about Project 365 .. it got me to relax alot more, … practice and experiment. I think for me it made me a better photographer and made me look alot differently through the lens. And expanded what I could do with post-production. As a amateur I found Project 365 a great learning experience … but I am sure that you would get something out of it too.

I think it is awesome that you are getting an iPhone. For me the ‘iDevices’ as I call them are just fantastic with the kids (and it is amazing by having one of their favourite movies on it for emergencies that most meltdowns can be avoided if necessary).

For photography the iPhone is also awesome. I only have a 3GS but I have had so much fun with it … especially with Instagram. I think you will have alot of fun. I would also recommend trying out Hipstamatic and I have also been advised to give Pudding (a Koren one) a go. Don’t worry about starting P365 on Jan 1. You have alot on your plate with the new baby, Big Bear and Little Tiger. You can start anytime it is right for you. Maybe if you start in Late Feb anyway you will be starting with the Chinese New Year .. However I know that doing it through the first year of LittleMiss’ life was a great idea. They change so much in that first year and having a photo collection like that is alot of fun.

      Happy New Year!!
